GUR Sewing Machines salutes sewing heroes everywhere<\/h2>\n

These are certainly strange times. It’s no exaggeration to say that in these lockdown times, more people have turned to sewing than at any time for a couple of generations as a pleasing and rewarding pastime. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Only now, it’s become more important than that – in that it’s become more important. Much more important!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In fact it’s fair to say that sewing has become one of the biggest potential life savers across the globe, as unselfish and serous people everywhere are donating their time and resources to keeping medical staff and others safe by producing facemarks, scrubs, wash bags and headbands in extraordinary quantities!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

So once again, we’re thanking all you wonderful seamstresses, seamsters, sewists and sewers everywhere to say<\/p>\n

“Thank you – each and every one of you!”<\/em><\/h2>\n

Here are just a few of our latest heroes….<\/strong><\/p>\n

A team of Fenland sewers have made and donated 65 sets of scrubs and 250 laundry bags for those on the coronavirus frontline thanks to donations from local people.\u00a0More \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n

Vikki Loeber-Hughes of Nimble Thimbles had to close her business when the pandemic hit the UK but has used her spare time to help her sewing students and shop customers sew uniforms and bags for medical professionals.\u00a0More \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n

Pensioners get sewing to make hundreds of scrubs for nurseries and surgeries. Pam Fawden, 68, and friend Nigel Long, 74, have been creating the garments from their home. More \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n

Hairdresser transforms pillow cases into scrubs to help protect Hull key workers. Molly Clark has been making scrubs for key workers across Yorkshire. Top job Molly! More \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n

Volunteers in Stansted who have been hard at work making protective clothing (PPE) for local health care workers have been praised for their efforts. More \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n

Members of Clare ICA and their friends joined forces and a nationwide appeal to sew scrubs for people working in healthcare settings during the Covid-19 pandemic. More \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n

Lovely story! Sewing ‘Super-Mave’ raises \u00a322,000 for Whitby RNLI. Mavis Paling, 72, has been tirelessly sewing and selling dog bandanas for the last few years to raise money for the RNLI and has now turned her hand to face masks. More \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n

Essex community groups donate scrubs for hospice nurses. An army of local organisations and individuals have produced 200 scrubs for Farleigh’s Hospice at Home nurses. More \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n
